Founder and Creative Director

ANNA GETANEH

Anna Getaneh is the founder and creative soul of African Mosaique. Her vision is focused on three elements: sourcing, manufacturing, and developing talent in Africa. A fashion-cultural enthusiast, humanitarian and acclaimed former international model, from her base in Paris and New York City, her modeling career spanned close to ten years. After having lived and trained all around the work, Anna returned home to Ethiopia to start the African Mosaique Design Center and Manufacturing Hub, where she continues to design, promote and provide mentorship.

Anna’s hallmark is her passion about children and development. She has done global advocacy work for UNICEF on African themes. Notably, she has spearheaded the establishment of the ECF Children’s Fund.

African Mosaique

Our Journey

African Mosaique was created and launched to play a lead role in unlocking Africa’s potential in the creative industry of fashion. We aim to grow the company and provide significant benefits to the African economy by monetizing the value of tradition, history, heritage and creativity that has remained widely untapped despite the availability of raw materials and talented designers and craftsmen.

To become the flagship African fashion company to promote and commercialize African fashion, design, textile traditions, heritage and stories in local and international markets.

To create local talent and value, sustain and promote African traditions, and build a scalable, viable and thriving industrial and internet-enabled African fashion company to regional and international markets.

OUR STORY

The African Mosaique story is all about celebrating creativity, unity, and showcasing the talent from Africa. It’s about building a shared culture that highlights African inspiration and skill, presenting top-notch products that are sourced, designed, and developed in Africa. African Mosaique, is a fashion and design company based in Africa with a goal to boost the production and export of African clothing, textiles, accessories, and fashion globally. We want to support the entire creative fashion industry by connecting local talent with training, infrastructure, and marketing channels. This helps African designers and craftspeople reach markets both at home and abroad. Our mission goes beyond just making and selling clothes. We aim to shift the perception of African fashion by creating a unique business model and story. We want consumers to appreciate and value Africa’s rich history and diverse traditions. Instead of seeing Africa solely as a source of cheap labor, we want the world to recognize it as a hub of authentic designs, traditions, modern production techniques, and talented individuals. Through fashion, we seek to promote and celebrate African culture not only locally but globally.

African Mosaique

Beyond Fashion

African Mosaique, originally a non-profit cultural initiative in NYC, transitioned into a social business with a focus on fostering emerging African designers. Through partnerships, it continues its not-for-profit work with the ECF Children’s Fund, supporting education in Ethiopia.

In 2016, African Mosaique launched AMFI, Africa’s first Fashion Incubator, providing free workshops, training, and industry exposure for designers under 35. The program covers technical skills, trend forecasting, business planning, and more. Selected designers get opportunities to showcase and promote their work nationally and beyond. Learn more by visiting @am_fashion_incubator.

Proceeds from African Mosaique fundraising events support the ECF Children’s Fund’s development programs for vulnerable children in rural Ethiopia. Visit www.ethiopianchildrensfund.org.
